- Maria is a writer of poetry, fiction, children story, play, script,in Cebuano and English. She wrote columns for What's on in the Visayas and Cebu Daily News. Also a visual artist and a clay sculptor, she is member of the Board of Trustee of Pusod Inc. (an organization of visual artists), treasurer of Bathalad, Inc. (an organization of writers) and past chairwoman of Women in Literary Arts, Inc. She wrote a book on the History of Lapunti Arnis de Abaniko-its Grandmasters and has published her literary works in several anthologies, magazines and newspapers. She also wrote the history Of Pinamungajan town for the Cebu Provincial History Project.She is active in local Cebuano films as scriptwriter, director, producer and actress. She runs a garden restaurant and a pension house in uptown Cebu City (Kukuk's Nest). She won in the Gawad Komisyon Cebuano fiction in 2006 and 2007 and starred in the movies "Pagbalik" -Gawad CCP Best Regional Entry, Confessional- Best Film, CineFan Film Festival in New Delhi, India, and From What is Before-Lav Diaz film that won the grand prize at the Locarno Film Festival. She also wrote the story of the award winning film "The Dream of Eleuteria".
